Looking at Corporate Support for Siak Hijau, Green Action or Greenwashing?

The haze disasters in Riau in 2015 and 2019 prompted the Siak Regency Government to implement the “Green Siak” policy, focusing on the conservation of forests and peatlands by involving both communities and corporations through the Private Sector Coalition for Green Siak (KPSSH). One of the corporations supporting this initiative is Wilmar, which emphasizes the importance of sustainability in the palm oil supply chain and supports independent farmers based on the NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) principles. Wilmar acknowledges that the company’s environmental stance is influenced by its business operations. As a public company, Wilmar is responsive to pressures for reform.
